The National Quality Award (formerly known as the Vietnam Quality Award – GTCLVN) was established in 1995 and is part of the Asia-Pacific Quality Awards system, initiated by the Asia-Pacific Quality Organization (APQO), based on the model and seven criteria derived from the United States' Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Over the course of more than 20 years, the criteria of the award have contributed to helping Vietnamese businesses comprehensively address quality issues, enhance competitiveness, managerial capabilities, credibility, and trust towards customers.
The GTCLVN program was established in 1995 on the occasion of the launch of the Productivity-Quality Movement in the First Decade of Vietnam's Quality (1995-2005), under the initiative of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (now the Ministry of Science and Technology – MOST). The goal of GTCLVN is to encourage Vietnamese businesses and organizations across all economic sectors to improve the quality of their operations, produce high-quality products and goods with competitiveness in both domestic and international markets, and actively contribute to the country's socio-economic development.
GTCLVN has significantly contributed to the development of the national economy, enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese businesses, and creating the necessary conditions for these businesses to enter a phase of positive integration with the international and regional markets.
Companies must fulfill the seven criteria of the award, ranging from leadership to technological innovation, in order to enhance product quality. The seven criteria have a total score of 1,000, including: leadership role (120 points); strategic planning (85 points); customer and market focus (85 points); measurement, analysis, and knowledge management (90 points); human resource management and development (85 points); process management (85 points); and business results (450 points).
