How to Suspend Cables and Wires in Industrial Projects?

13/03/2024

The suspension of cables and wires in industrial projects, in accordance with the provisions of the National Standard TCVN 9208:2012, is outlined as follows:

1. Suspension and Installation of Cables and Wires in Industrial Projects:

How the suspension and installation of cables and wires in industrial projects comply with current regulations is explored below in this article by Cát Vạn Lợi. Specifically, according to Section 4 of the National Standard TCVN 9208:2012, the suspension and installation of cables and wires in industrial projects are regulated as follows:

  • Cables and wires need to be suspended or supported carefully to avoid excessive tension and ensure that their ends do not bear excessive loads, including the impact of their own natural weight.

  • Protecting cables and wires through means such as conduit pipes, cable trays, ladder trays, and cable boxes requires careful fixation to ensure safety. The design of rigid PVC conduit fixing methods should allow for expansion due to temperature variations during operation, avoiding mechanical damage risks. This ensures a safe and efficient operating environment.

  • Cable structures should be constructed from non-combustible materials, and for cable support structures, non-combustible materials should also be used to ensure safety and reduce the risk of fire or explosion.

  • For outdoor cables, effective protective measures are essential to prevent direct sunlight exposure and minimize the impact of other heat sources. These measures not only protect cables from environmental impacts but also ensure the performance and durability of the cable system under harsh conditions.

=> Based on these regulations, for each cable and wire in industrial projects, suspension or support must be done carefully to ensure they do not exceed the safe tension limit. Specifically, the cable or wire ends should be protected from bearing loads, including the impact of their natural weight. These regulations ensure the safety and stability of the cable and wire system in an industrial environment.

2. Use of Cable Boxes for Storing Wires and Cables in Industrial Projects:

According to Section 7 of the National Standard TCVN 9208:2012, the installation of cables and wires in cable boxes is regulated as follows:

  • Using cable boxes is an effective solution for storing wires and cables in areas with a small amount and small diameter of cables. For this specific purpose, cable boxes should be made of high-strength materials, creating a safe and stable environment.

  • To ensure the integrity and performance of the system, the installation of cable boxes should be completed before placing wires or cables into the tray. This requires meticulous preparation to ensure the system operates efficiently.

  • Cable boxes should have extended covers along their length, ensuring flexibility for easy removal. This not only facilitates installation but also optimizes maintenance and cable replacement. Furthermore, the standard specifies no junctions between the cable box and the cover at wall or floor crossings, creating a robust and safe system.

  • In areas exposed to rain, the protective rating of the cable box should be no less than IP23. Water and moisture barriers should be implemented to prevent water or moisture from entering the cable box, protecting the cable and wire system.

  • The shape and surface treatment of cable box joints or directional points are crucial to avoid damaging cables and wires inside. This ensures the stability and safety of the system, reducing the risk of damage.

  • Cable box installation should allow easy access at any point along its length, facilitating inspection and cable repair.

  • In low-humidity or flammable environments, additional protective measures should be applied to ensure absolute safety.

  • Proper arrangement of wires and cables inside the cable box, in short lengths, helps efficient airflow and provides favorable conditions for heat dissipation to maintain a stable temperature.

  • Metal cable boxes not only need to be grounded but also need to be connected to the nearest grounding wire, with the condition that the metal cable box itself should not be used as the grounding wire for any other equipment. This ensures an effective and safe grounding connection for the entire system.

=> Following these guidelines, cable boxes can be used as a flexible and efficient solution for containing wires and cables in industrial projects, especially in areas with a small amount and small diameter of cables. Using cable boxes not only protects the electrical circuit but also creates favorable conditions for system maintenance and management, meeting safety and performance criteria in challenging industrial environments.

3. Conduit System for Cable Installation in Industrial Projects:

Section 8 of the National Standard TCVN 9208:2012 regulates the installation of cables and wires in conduit systems as follows:

  • The conduit system, including components such as steel pipes, plastic pipes, bushings, elbows, fittings, and other conduit accessories, forms a diverse and complete structure to meet the requirements of cable and wire installation and protection in industrial environments.

  • For manufacturing areas, using a rigid metal conduit system is essential to provide maximum protection for cables and is an excellent complement to cable tray systems. The combination of these elements ensures the safety and stability of the electrical transmission system.

  • The installation process of the conduit system must be completed before threading cables into the conduit. This requires pre-equipped draw wires for easy cable pulling. Note that this standard does not apply to conduit systems placed in pre-cast concrete structures.

  • In cases where the conduit system is integrated into pre-cast concrete structures, cable and wire threading can be done before the concrete is poured. However, special protective measures should be applied to prevent mortar or concrete from entering the conduit ends. Additionally, it should be ensured that the wire ends protruding from the conduit mouth are not damaged during construction.

  • The conduit system integrated into pre-cast concrete structures should not bear the mechanical tensile forces during installation and concrete pouring. This ensures the stability of the system and avoids issues related to unintended tension.

  • Before pouring concrete over the conduit pipes, it is essential that these pipes are secured so that the thickness of the concrete layer around the conduit section is not less than 15 mm at any point. This ensures full and tight coverage, enhancing the sustainability and performance of the system.

=> Based on the regulations, the conduit system for cable and wire installation in industrial environments is formed by a series of diverse and necessary components. Specifically, this system includes steel pipes, plastic pipes, bushings, elbows, fittings, and other conduit accessories, creating a comprehensive and flexible structure to meet all requirements and standards in ensuring the safety and performance of electrical transmission in diverse and complex industrial environments.
