A conduit body is a fitting designed to offer access to electrical conductors within a conduit system. It facilitates the pulling, splicing, and routing of wires, and allows for the splitting or changing of conduit paths. Often referred to as "condulets" (a trademarked term by Cooper Crouse-Hinds), conduit bodies are integral components in electrical installations, assisting in managing and organizing conduit layouts.
Types of Conduit Bodies:
- L-Shaped Bodies (LB, LL, LR):
- LB: Features an inlet aligned with the cover and an outlet positioned at the back.
- LL: Has an inlet aligned with the cover and an outlet on the left side.
- LR: Comes with an inlet aligned with the cover and an outlet on the right side.
- Function: These L-shaped conduit bodies create a 90-degree turn in conduit systems, useful in areas where space is limited for a full-radius bend.
- T-Shaped Bodies:
- Feature: Includes an inlet aligned with the cover and outlets on both the left and right sides.
- Function: Enables conduits to branch in three directions, making it ideal for splitting electrical runs.
- C-Shaped Bodies:
- Feature: Contains an inlet and outlet aligned with the cover at both ends.
- Function: Suitable for straight conduit runs, allowing access to conductors without altering the direction of the conduit.
Conduit bodies play a crucial role in conduit systems by providing accessible junction points, thereby simplifying the installation and maintenance of wiring.
